Hello 2010!

2010 is in less than 12 hours. 2009 brought with it love, loss, learning and motivation, not necessarily in that order. Tonight, I’ll be welcoming the new year with the best friends that a guy could ask for in Brooklyn, NY. Hopefully in the near future, I’ll be spending much more time there.

Happy Holidays everyone, be safe tonight, wherever you are.

Just One More Week

Christmas is in less than a week.

The strange thing is, years ago this would have excited me. I would be boiling over in excitement of practicing the Wesson Brothers tradition of pretending to sleep while in a room with my brothers, waiting until the middle of the night (or more accurately, early morning), to sneak out and see if Santa delivered presents. I had waited all year for that night, and through the giggles, the joking, the anticipation, nothing could make that night more magical.
It has been more than fifteen years since I’ve practiced that tradition with my brothers. For starters, we don’t live in the same state anymore, and I work through the holiday season. Secondly, we are all old enough to value our privacy, no matter what tradition we break.
As much as I miss my family during the holiday season, I’m doing my best to stay busy, find myself around good friends, and look to the future. There’s much to be done in 2010, and for better or worse, it will get done.

Small Victories

Today I finished a short project for work. Not only does this fullfill a bit of CYA, but it made me look good. I was not aware that I had the abilities that I eventually displayed today, but it appears that I do, and therefore, I have another set of skills to hone in the near future to make myself a bit more marketable. More as it happens.

Here are a few quick test of something that I was working on today. It felt good to be producing things again.

Oh my god, i'm tired...

Good Lord, I didn’t sleep last night.

Profile Picture
I started painting again last night, which is something I haven’t done in months. The results weren’t great, but it was nice to feel the brush in my hand again. Maybe i’ll break out some of my old books, and try to relearn some of the techniques that I forgot. I always found a bit of peace in painting, and I certainly have a few ideas that i’d like to try out... Anyways, after painting, I felt inspired and opened up Photoshop. After a while, I realized it was 4 AM! I finally got to sleep, only to wake up at 7 AM, and i’ve been a zombie ever since. I have to relearn a proper sleep schedule.

Back to School I Go!

Well, not quite yet, but I bought a few books on writing in the hopes that I can improve my writing skills. Over the past few years, I’ve not had to write much more than advertising copy for work, so I feel like there’s a lot that fell through the cracks. This will be good for me. Anything that I can do to better myself at this point is welcomed.

I’m Ready for My Close-up, Mr Wesson...

I’m trying to get back into CG as well. Recently I did a tiny project for work, and I forgot how much I enjoyed that as well. I need to learn how to integrate my 3D work with my web work for Maximum Damage! Also, I learned that with iMovie 09 comes a green screen function. While it may not be After Effects or Fusion, it’s something, and I’m sure I can make some good use of it for another personal project.

It seems like I have a lot of personal projects lined up!

And The Beat Goes On...

beardyman
In other news, I’ve discovered Beardyman, the two time UK beatboxing champion. You might have seen him performing at Google in 2007 (I believe? I may be wrong...). And while his beatboxing skills are top notch, it’s his live looping that really impresses me. By recording himself, adding effects and looping his own vocals live, he covered Angel by Massive Attack, I Would Do Anything For Love by Meatloaf, Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, and a whole lot more that I probably haven’t seen yet. Not only that, but his sense of humor and ability to engage his audience at the live shows sets him apart from the rest of the beatboxers that I’ve seen on youtube. Admittedly, I’m not so much into electronic music, but I am into Beardyman,

Wrapping Up...

On the agenda today: Finish Christmas Shopping, Pick up Snow Leopard, Get Holiday Cards, Do Dishes, Get to NYC for dinner with the Captain... It’s going to be a busy day.
